On Saturday, May 5, 150 students from across Ohio gathered at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, for the fifth annual Road Safe Teens event. Sponsored by Westfield Insurance, Road Safe Teens is a condensed version of the Honda Defensive Driving Program, which provides newly licensed drivers with practical information about car maintenance and driving safety.
The day began at 9 a.m., where students were taken to the Honda Vehicle Dynamics Center. They were entered into real-life driving situations with the Honda Civic Skid Car, including skidding, wet braking and emergency lane changing. They practice these important skills in a controlled environment while instructors give them on-the-spot feedback to improve.
The goal of Road Safe Teens is prepare students with the information they need to prevent crashes on the road. Students that complete the program are given a certificate.
The Road Safe Teens program is an important component of Westfield Insurance’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, as well as developing safe teen drivers. Westfield is also the official insurance provider of Mid-Ohio.
Students use the Honda Civic Skid Cars to learn how to navigate loss of control situations.
